We’re seeing plenty of short-haul hops up and down the West Coast for the price of a nice dinner, but the real value here is in the longer routes. Alaska is offering flights to Hawaii and cross-country to New York for prices we rarely see outside of mistake fares. Here’s what you need to know to snag the best seats:
The Sweet Spot: Top Route Picks
While there are dozens of routes on sale, these are the ones that offer the highest value per dollar (and per mile).
1. The Hawaii Steals ($99 – $139)
Getting to the islands for under $100 is the holy grail of West Coast travel. The points redemption here is particularly strong; 7,500 miles for a flight to Hawaii is an exceptional use of Mileage Plan points.
- San Francisco (SFO) to Kona (KOA): $99 or 7.5k points (+ $6 taxes)
- San Diego (SAN) to Maui (OGG): $99 or 7.5k points (+ $6 taxes)

Important Details: The Fine Print
These prices are for Saver Fares (Alaska’s version of Basic Economy). Before you book, keep the following restrictions in mind to ensure this deal fits your travel style:
- Seating: You will be assigned a seat at check-in (usually in the back). Families hoping to sit together should exercise caution.
- Changes: Saver fares are more restrictive. However, under Alaska’s current policy, you can cancel a Saver fare for a 50% credit if you cancel at least 14 days prior to departure.
- Baggage: Carry-on is included, but checked bags will cost extra.
- Deadline: You must purchase your ticket by 11:59 PM PT tonight, December 19, 2025.
Our Take
If you have a stash of Alaska miles, the 4,000 to 7,500 point redemptions are the clear winner here. Valuing Alaska miles conservatively at 1.4 cents per point, a 7,500-point flight to Hawaii is effectively costing you ~$105—a fantastic deal for a prime winter escape.
