Below is a complete breakdown of the eligible routes, travel windows, fare conditions, and key restrictions to know before booking.
Route Restrictions & Exclusions Explained
- Origin Restrictions: Flights must originate in qualifying cities across Africa, the Middle East, or Asia. Flights originating in North America, Europe, or excluded Asian markets do not qualify.
- Excluded Origins & Destinations: Flights departing from or landing in Addis Ababa (ADD), Somalia, or China are strictly excluded from the 10% promotional discount.
- Operating Carrier Rule: Discounts apply exclusively to Ethiopian Airlines-operated flights. Codeshare segments operated by partner Star Alliance carriers are ineligible.
Maximizing Value: Redemption Sweet Spots
To extract maximum value from this promotion, consider these strategic booking insights:
- Long-Haul Cloud Nine Savings: Because the 10% reduction applies to higher-tier base fares in C9 Business Class, long-haul connecting routes across Africa and Asia deliver the highest absolute cash savings.
- Autumn Shoulder Season Travel: The September 1 through November 30 travel window aligns with lower peak demand in many African and Asian destinations, allowing travelers to stack promotional fare discounts on top of off-peak baseline pricing.
- Connecting Itineraries: Although Addis Ababa (ADD) is excluded as an origin or final destination point, connecting itineraries routed through the ADD hub remain valid as long as origin and destination cities meet regional requirements.
