Gate agent

Gate agent

A gate agent is an airline employee stationed at the boarding gates where flights are boarded and disembarked.

Gate agents are responsible for the airline’s pre-boarding and boarding processes – basically getting the passengers on the plane in an orderly way once they’ve arrived at the gate.  Gate agents are important people in the air travel world and can make crucial decisions such as who gets an upgrade or  who gets bumped if the flight is oversold, seat assignments, and the like.
