Like other carriers, Malaysia Airlines offers different classes of service, or cabin classes. On Malaysia’s international routes, the three cabin classes available are Economy, Business, and Business Suite. Each cabin class contains multiple fare classes, also known as booking classes.

Airline fare classes are represented by different letters of the alphabet, called fare class codes (or booking class codes). The fare class code is the first letter of another code called the fare basis code, which is a series of letters and numbers that describes the flight ticket and what it includes.

Knowing the fare class for your flights is important because different classes have different priorities for things like upgrades, standby, and boarding. Different classes also earn frequent flyer points and miles at different rates, with both Malaysia’s Enrich program and those of its partner airlines.

In general, the more expensive the fare on Malaysia Airlines, the better the fare class, and the better the perks and benefits. Higher fare classes are more likely to offer free changes, cancellations, and refunds, as well as more generous baggage allowances.

This article explains what different Malaysia Airlines fare classes and codes mean. We’ll also show you how to find the fare class and fare basis code for your flights during the booking process.
